The University's badminton teams achieve outstanding performance in inter-university games
The University's Badminton Teams made remarkable
achievements in The University Sports Federation of Hong Kong Badminton Competition
and the Hong Kong Inter-school Badminton Team Championships. This is a testament to
the teams' perseverance and strength, and the skills they gained under the
stewardship of staff members from the Department of Health and Physical Education
(HPE).
The EdUHK Badminton Team defeated its opponents and became the
champion in the Tertiary Mixed-gender Division of the Hong Kong Inter-school
Badminton Team Championships held by the Hong Kong Badminton Association at the Hang
Hau Sports Centre on 14 June. The team included mixed doubles players Chang
Tak-ching and Ng Wing-yung; men's and women's single players Chow Hin-long and Yeung
Nga-ting; men's doubles partners Or Chin-chung and Lee Chun-lai, as well as women's
doubles pairing Tsang Hiu-yan and Yuen Sin-ying. Although at a certain point, it
fell behind in the finals, the EdUHK team won two games in a row and beat the CUHK
team 3-2.
Separately, the EdUHK Women's Badminton Team was crowned champion
of The University Sports Federation of Hong Kong Badminton Competition 2020-2021 on
25 April. The women's team dominated the 12-team tournament which began in March and
claimed the title for the first time by defeating the defending champions 3-0 in the
finals. Meanwhile, the EdUHK Men's Badminton Team was second runner-up in the men's
competition.
By providing vigorous professional training, HPE helps various
EdUHK sports teams to achieve impressive results. As regards the University's
Badminton Teams, HPE's training enables our student players to hone their badminton
skills, and teaches them how to prepare themselves mentally for top competitions.
