FLASS scholars receive President’s Awards 2023/24 for their outstanding achievements
The University held a ceremony on 19 June to celebrate staff members winning the President’s Awards for Outstanding Performance in Teaching, Research, Knowledge Transfer, and Administrative Services 2023/24. At the ceremony, Dr Fu Hong, Assistant Professor from the Department of Mathematics and Information Technology (MIT) received the President’s Award for Outstanding Performance in Knowledge Transfer from EdUHK President Professor John Lee Chi-Kin. The President’s Award for Administrative Services went to a three-member team including Professor Lo Sing-kai, Chair Professor of FLASS, and Professor Kong Siu-cheung, Research Chair Professor of MIT.
Professor Lee congratulated the members of staff on their extraordinary performance. He said, “I am deeply honoured to extend my appreciation to you all. With your dedication and passion for education, EdUHK is able to continue moving forward. I believe, with everyone’s support, the University will become a pioneer in education and related fields, seize the opportunity to develop Hong Kong into an international hub for higher education, and further enhance research, collaboration, and exchange. Let’s join hands and lead the University to scale new heights of excellence.”
Dr Fu Hong joined the Department of Mathematics and Information Technology in 2020. Since then, she has demonstrated exceptional achievements in securing external research funding and developing innovative technologies. Since 2020, she has successfully secured over HK$9.4 million in external competitive research grants for initiatives related to improving the behavioural performance of school-aged children with ADHD, as well as research projects in the fields of healthcare, sports, and education.
The Administrative Services award went to Professor Lo Sing-kai, Chair Professor of FLASS, Professor Kong Siu-cheung, Research Chair Professor of the Department of Mathematics and Information Technology, and Dr Faye Wang Yifei, Executive Officer I in the Global Affairs Office. The team has been highly committed to exploring and embracing opportunities to work with universities and schools in Belt and Road countries, especially in the regions of Central and South Asia. They have engaged or partnered with the relevant ministries of education and participated in multiple capacity-building projects; thereby raising the University’s profile in these countries.
Dean of FLASS Professor Li Wai-keung congratulated Dr Fu Hong, Professor Lo Sing-kai and Professor Kong Siu-cheung for their remarkable achievements. “One of Dr Fu's most notable accomplishments is the development of the world's first prototype for Intelligent Ocular Misalignment Measurement. This groundbreaking technology has been recognised with the prestigious gold medal at the 2023 International Exhibition of Inventions of Geneva, further solidifying Dr Fu's reputation as a leading researcher and innovator in her field. Through her commitment and innovative spirit, Dr Fu has made significant contributions to advancing knowledge and driving positive societal impact,” Professor Li said.
Established in 2011/12, the President’s Awards recognise and encourage individual and team achievements, fostering the University’s commitment to a performance-driven culture. Besides Dr Fu and the award-winning team from FLASS, four academic staff members from other faculties have also won individual awards.
